Summer Term 1 2013 Overview – Under the Sea
In Reception this term we are going under the sea! We will start the term with a trip to the Blue Reef Aquarium. Our role play areas will be set up as a beach café and a sea life centre. In creative areas children will be making a variety of creatures to put in their role play areas and in writing the children will have opportunities to create their own leaflet and make some labels for these areas.
In ICT we intend for the children to use the digital cameras to take pictures and then download them onto a proforma so they can type in their caption to accompany their pictures. This work will be put into a book for everyone to look at! This is going to be a challenge for the children so if you have access to a computer at home, it would help your child hugely if you can encourage them to use the keys for typing. The more practice they have, the more confident they will be with using computers to produce work. It is a very busy and exciting term for the children and we look forward to your continued support.
Autumn Term 2012 Overview
This term the children have settled in well and are learning the school routines. Our current topic is ‘We are special’ and we have been looking at ourselves and our learning environment. We have been using activities that interest and excite the children in order to develop their initiative and encourage independent learning.
Some of the activities are: printing using materials. creating dens and models, role play including traditional fairy stories, pre writing skills and initial letters and sounds, investigations involving changes, and movement to music.
We are having lots of fun!

Spring Term 2012 Overview – Down on the Farm
This term the topic for Reception is ‘Old MacDonald’. The children will be looking at farm animals and pets as well as their young. The children will be discussing the similarities and differences between the adults and their young and this will culminate in a visit to Staunton Country Park near the end of term (we will be sending out more details to parents and carers very soon).
The role play areas will be set up as a vets and a garden centre and the children will be listening to stories and writing about animals they might see at a farm or have looked after at home. Creatively the children will be exploring textures and colours of animals and their features.
We are also acknowledging the Chinese New Year which this year is the Year of the Dragon, by making dragon puppets and Chinese lanterns.
If the children have any pictures or photos of their pets, we would be delighted to see them and listen to the children share what they know about their pets.
Thank you all for your continued support with your children’s learning and we look forward to a very exciting term!
