 Summer Term 2014 Overview

Welcome back!

In Year R we are looking forward to getting outdoors in the sun shine. This term our current topic is ‘Under The Sea’ and we will be looking at different sea creatures that live beneath the waves, both in warmer climes and around our coast. Nearer to home we will be investigating creatures in our school pond and studying the life cycle of frogs. Later in the term we will be visiting The Blue Reef Aquarium so the children can experience the more unusual sea creatures first hand.

In the second half of the term our focus will move inland to the forest where we will be investigating bears and their habitats. We will also be exploring bears in other roles (eg Famous bears and toy bears, old and new). This will culminate in a teddy bears picnic at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, so get your teddies at the ready!

Spring Term 2014 Overview.

This term our topics are Seasons, New Life and Farms.

The first half of term we will be focusing on the ‘Seasons’.  After the half term break as the weather improves we will be raising a new batch of baby chicks from their eggs.

We will also be visiting Staunton Country Park at the end of term to observe the Mothers and baby animals first hand.

We hope these experiences will develop a sense of awe and wonder in the children and encourage them to develop care and concern for living things and the environment.

TRIP TO QUEEN ELIZABETH COUNTRY PARK!!

During the first week back after Half Term we will be visiting Queen Elizabeth Country Park.  The children will be spending the morning at the country park and will be arriving back at school in time for lunch.

Miss Lamond’s class will be going on Monday 4th November 2013 and Mrs Barker’s class on Tuesday 5th November 2013.

The purpose for our trip is to look at the changes that occur during Autumn and for the children to experience and enjoy being in a woodland environment.

Autumn Term 2013 Overview

This term our topic is ‘We are special’ and we will be looking at ourselves and our environment (with a particular emphasis on the changing season). This will include a trip to Queen Elizabeth Country Park.

Traditional and modern stories and role play will include Goldilocks and the 3 bears, Room on the broom and The gingerbread man. We will also be using songs and stories to count to 20 and learning about the properties of shapes. Creatively we will be experimenting and exploring the use of natural objects. We will be using puppets and percution creating different sounds.

We are so looking forward to welcoming all the children into our new classrooms and lovely outside area and settling them into their routines. It will be an exciting term! http://www.computingatschool.org.uk/

Summer Term 2013 Overview – Under the Sea

In Reception this term we are going under the sea! We will start the term with a trip to the Blue Reef Aquarium. Our role play areas will be set up as a beach café and a sea life centre. In creative areas children will be making a variety of creatures to put in their role play areas and in writing the children will have opportunities to create their own leaflet and make some labels for these areas.

In ICT we intend for the children to use the digital cameras to take pictures and then download them onto a proforma so they can type in their caption to accompany their pictures. This work will be put into a book for everyone to look at! This is going to be a challenge for the children so if you have access to  a computer at home, it would help your child hugely if you can encourage them to use the keys for typing. The more practice they have, the more confident they will be with using computers to produce work. It is a very busy and exciting term for the children and we look forward to your continued support.

We have been using activities that interest and excite the children in order to develop their initiative and encourage independent learning.
Some of the activities are: printing using materials. creating dens and models, role play including traditional fairy stories, pre writing skills and initial letters and sounds, investigations involving changes, and movement to music.

We are having lots of fun!

If the children have any pictures or photos of their pets, we would be delighted to see them and listen to the children share what they know about their pets.
